8 new South Jersey restaurants to check out from Cherry Hill to Atlantic City
When Mohammad Manasra began eating halal meats, he noticed the lack of options in South Jersey.
Halal is the Arabic word for permissible and refers to meat that follows the tradition of slaughter called zabiha, which requires the animal to be killed in the name of Allah with as little pain as possible.
“There's just this void here — anytime I wanted to eat ‘American’ food, I would have to cook at home … because if I wanted to eat halal outside, all the time it's a very Mediterranean dish or a very Indian, Pakistani dish … and it doesn’t hit that spot,” he explained.
